We decided (based on our obsession with all things Disney and the fact that we got engaged in Epcot along with my obsession with all things Christmas) to throw a Holiday Engagement Party with Disney accents (in addition to a few Disney songs including Kiss the Girl and Be Our Guest which played while the food was served!).
First came our DIY Holiday Engagement Invitation. Created on Photoshop with the help of Christmas Font found through Dafont.com. I edited a nice Mickey and Minnie Silhouette to add some playfulness to the invitation along with a layer of snowflakes, each individually picked and edited from other files (takes some patience to make this layer but in the end added some uniqueness to the plain white background!). Next we cut Holiday Green 65lb. cardstock to 5 1/4 by 7 1/4. Invitations were printed on 67lb. white cardstock and printed them at Staples as our printer was acting up, and cut to 5 x 7 and pasted onto the Holiday Green Cardstock with a tape glider. Total cost for 50 DIY invitations with printing and ribbon came to $55. Not bad if you enjoy taking the time to DIY of course :) Here is the final invitation ! >
And to add some DIY color and creativity to the party decor (even though the hall was beautifully lit with Christmas lights and decorations), we used mini mason jars from my mother's Garden Engagement Party, wrapped them with Christmas Ribbon from Michaels and filled them with some Christmas colored M&Ms. >
Finally we made our place card holders using three mini candycanes (boxes were just $2 each from the local Michael's store..came with 45 in each box) held together with crazy glue and slipped our place cards into each.... this took some care as the candycanes are fragile but were much appreciated by the guests! >
And finally- for our favors- my aunt was great enough to create DIY ornaments with personalized ribbon (ordered from wrapwithus.com) ...we set up three small christmas trees and hung these favors on them to give the guests something to walk over to and admire! Each guest was able to take an ornament from the tree on their way out and it was a hit!
